HERE is the link to the general hockey curriculum, and these skills are supposed to be mastered within each level. We often will work on other skills & drills with skaters so they can be more successful at each skill, plus we may teach skills that are outside of each level. It will just be based upon what is helpful to that class. Simply because there is a lot more knowledge out there about skating skills & power skating than what is listed on the curriculum!
Most hockey levels take about 8-12 classes to pass, but it depends upon the skater, their level in skating development plus their physical and mental development. It also depends upon how consistently you take class.
Ultimately, passing levels is fun and rewarding, but we also want skaters to learn a lot and be truly great skaters!
-
All skaters in hockey classes should wear a hockey helmet, hockey skates & gloves. Skaters should wear warm athletic attire, and they can wear their hockey gear if they would like, but they don’t have to. It actually helps us see skater’s alignment and knee bend better when you’re not wearing your pads, but it is totally fine to wear them.
Only skaters enrolled in Power Skating classes can have their sticks on the ice with them, and they can only have them in class. Nobody can have a stick in the practice end.

Please do the following when you arrive for skating classes!
-Use the Class Calendar to pre-register for your class time.
-Arrive about 15 minutes prior to your class starting!
-Have the skater use the restroom if they need it.
-Go to the front table by the rink we are skating in that day.
-Move your attendance & progress card from the black box to the clear box so we know you are here!
-Take a time sticker from the box so we know what time your skater wants to do class.
-Find your nametag in the pocket chart. Put the time sticker on it.
-Follow the signs & go to the locker rooms to put your skates on!
-If you are early to class, you can go practice in the end, or wait by the doors (one door will be for the red classes & one door is for the other classes) until it is your class time.
-When it’s time for class, please go the sign with your class color on it! You will know what color class you are in because there is a sticker on the back of your nametag that is the proper color plus the type of class you are in on the front of your nametag is also written in your class color. Hockey & Power Classes are usually in the GREEN class and should meet their instructor by the GREEN sign.
-Listen to your instructor, be safe, learn a lot & have lots of fun in class!
-After class, please put your nametag back into its spot in the pocket chart!
-
All skaters actively enrolled in classes are welcome to practice in the practice end!
Please stay inside the coned off area. You cannot have any sticks or other objects with you in the practice end~ please practice your skating & other skills you’ve learned in class!
The practice end is available:
Sundays (Oct-April) 4:30-6:30 pm
Tuesdays (all year) 5:30-7:00 pm
Thursdays (May-Sept) 5:30-6:30 pm
Parents can only practice in the practice end with their child if they are either A.) enrolled in classes or B.) have flled out a Parent Pass form, and they have a Learn to Skate USA membership!

This is where our program is unique, and skaters can use our program to progress as quickly as they’d like or at their own pace!
On your attendance card, every fourth class is marked off in red. When you turn in your card and notice that you are coming on the 4th, 8th, 12th or 16th class, please turn your card in to the clear bin that is labeled with the time of your class, and then we will evaluate any skater who’s card is turned in that day!
After we evaluate you, we will return the bin to the front table so skaters can see their results. If you earned a badge that day, it will be attached to your card!

We have rules that we ask all participants & families abide by to help ensure everyone is safe on the ice:
*All spectators should sit in the bleachers (not the hockey boxes) during class.
*Only skate school staff is allowed in the hockey boxes.
*Please do not crowd the doorways so skaters can get on & off the ice quickly.
*No shoes on the ice.
*No gum or food on the ice.
*Skaters unstable on their feet should wear helmets.
*Skaters should stay in the practice end until it’s time for their lesson.
*If you are late to class and cannot skate to class yourself, please wait patiently by the doorway until a staff member can get you. Parents cannot walk their skater to class on the ice with their shoe on. Otherwise, skaters should skate to class on their own (just find your color).
PRACTICE END RULES
*No sticks or other objects
*Only skate school participants & parents with a parent pass or enrolled in classes in the practice end.
*Skate at safe speeds!
*Stay on your feet in the practice end & play nicely with your friends.
*Skaters not able to follow the rules will only be warned once, and then they will be asked to sit out of practicing that day.

Inclement Weather~ if there is inclement weather, assume we are still having skating classes. We only do not have classes unless the VMCC itself closes. Remember, you can always re-schedule a class if you do not want to come in, and we are are still having classes.
Skate School Cancellations~If there is ever an emergency, and we can’t have classes (i.e. a power outgage), we will email families ASAP! You will not be refunded for a class~ just re-schedule it!
Refunds~ Because of our flexible class schedule, we do not refund families for missed classes or if someone signs up for skating classes & then realizes it doesn’t work for them. We do not do refunds except for extenuating circumstances and that is purely at the director’s discretion.
Class Sizes~ if classes are small, we will merge them together. All coaches are trained in teaching multiple levels at once, and the LTS USA curriculum was designed so that lower level skills build into higher level ones so it is easy to teach multiple levels at once, and it helps introduce new skills to skaters.
Space in Class- Because skaters can pick and choose what classes they want, we generally do not fill up. That’s why we use the Class Calendar! The spot you are giving up someone else can have! In the event of a full class, skaters pre-registered for the class only have spots for that class (you can’t just show up to get a spot if the class is full and no one cancels).
Changing Levels- the Skating Director or On Ice Coordinator has the discretion to move skaters around to the most appropriate class as they see fit. We do this so skater’s can feel successful on the ice, or be challenged if class is too easy or if the skater needs to move up before the evaluation rolls around.
-
All skaters that step foot on our ice time must have some sort of skating insurance! This is mandatory with our insurance and just in general in the skating world.
Most hockey players have a USA Hockey membership. This works to cover the insurance. Please email a copy of your current USA Hockey membership to info@premierskatingacademy.com as soon as you register for classes.
If we don’t receive a copy of your current USA Hockey membership, then we will email you one time. If we don’t hear back from you within the designated time frame, we will charge your card on file $18.50 for a Learn to Skate USA membership since that is the cheapest form of insurance.
May 2025-Sept 2025- Class Registration is not available yet, but these are coming up!
